Discovering
The Magic Kingdom
Disney fans have nicknamed my book
"the Disney bible."
My work with Disney's Legendary Imagineer,
TERRI HARDIN
I met Terri Hardin back in March 2014 at a Golden Gate Disneyana fan club meeting as she was the guest speaker. We developed a friendship after that and saw each other at future Disney events. In 2017, I asked her if she would be willing to write the foreword for my new book. She was excited to do it. In 2018, We sat down for a 6.5-hour Skype call to discuss all the attractions she has worked on for Disney, movies she has been in, her puppeteering work for Jim Henson, and much much more. I wrote a mini-biography of sorts to put her work in chronological order.
Also in 2018, we started co-creating Disney fantasy pins together. She would send me a sketch and I would redraw it as pin art and have them produced into pins. To order a pin designed by Terri Hardin, just scroll through the pictures and click on the link.
•Big Al (2018) - from The Country Bear Jamboree which existed in Disneyland's Bear Country from 1972-1986. The land was renamed Critter Country in 1988 and the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown was there from 1986-2001 when it was removed to make way for the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction. After it closed, the Big Al animatronics was repurposed for the Oogie Boogie animatronic in the new Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay. You can still see the attraction if you visit the Magic Kingdom in Disney World. Terri was the puppeteer for Big Al in the movie The Country Bears (2002).
•Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (2020) - Terri had just created a new sculpture of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit as the subject. She sent me the sketch of Oswald to redraw as a pin.
•Stitch with the Grand Councilwoman (2020)- Terri wanted her as the center attraction as she is Terri's favorite character in Lilo & Stitch (2002).
•Br'er Rabbit (2020) - Terri was the Imagineer who sculpted the Br'er Rabit figurehead and the ride vehicle log for Splash Mountain in Disney World.
•Hitchhiking Ghosts (2021) - Terri had just finished a special set of light-up Haunted Mansion hitchhiking ghost sculptures when we decided to create them as a pin. This pin actually glows in the dark.
